Volunteer FAQ for River Walk Events
1. Where are your locations for volunteer check-ins?
-Office Location: Our office is located at 110 Losoya St., San Antonio, TX 78205, at the corner of Losoya St. and Houston St., right where Broadway turns into Losoya St. This is across from the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Please note, most of our events do not meet at this location, but if an in-office volunteer opportunity is available, it will be listed here.
-Marina: Located at 203 S. St. Mary's, San Antonio, TX, this is on the corner of W. Market and S. St. Mary's Street, on the river level of the International Building. It’s right under the Biga on the Banks restaurant, which is a great landmark. You’ll find a teal and orange Biga on the Banks sign, with a ramp leading down to our marina. This is where many of our event check-ins occur.
-The Cos House in La Villita: Located at 418 Villita St., San Antonio, TX, this building is right above the Arneson River Theatre and next to the Smoke BBQ restaurant. This is our central hub for volunteers for smaller parades.
-For larger parades, please check the specific event posting for alternate check-in locations, which may include places like the Central Library, Weston Centre, Sol Cypress Hotel, or Thompson Hotel.
2. What is the minimum age to volunteer?
We welcome volunteers of all ages! From young children (accompanied by a parent) to older adults, there is something for everyone to do. We often have volunteer roles that involve interacting with attendees or helping out with preparations for events, so younger folks can easily get involved. In fact, we love to be a part of their volunteer journey! Everyone, regardless of age, will need to fill out a waiver for each event they participate in. We’ve even had family pets join us for volunteer work, so feel free to bring your friends, family, and kids along. Volunteers from ages 5 to 99 help us out, and we’d love for you to join us!
3. How do I find volunteer opportunities?
To find all upcoming volunteer opportunities, visit the "Programs" tab on our website. There, you’ll see all our upcoming events, each with available shifts to sign up for. You can view the opportunities in a calendar or grid format, browse through the options, and watch videos I’ve made to give you a better idea of what volunteering for each event looks like. This will help you find the perfect opportunity for you!
4. Is parking provided for volunteers?
Unless otherwise noted in the volunteer opportunity posting, we do not reimburse for parking. However, we are actively working with the city to provide better parking options for volunteers. For our large events, we try to arrange for free parking at places like the Central Library Garage, and we schedule opportunities around times when parking is discounted or free downtown. If you’re attending an event, please check the specific event posting for more details about parking arrangements. In the meantime, we recommend carpooling or using street parking meters, which typically cost a few dollars an hour. We’re always looking for ways to make parking easier for our volunteers, so stay tuned for updates!
5. Can I get volunteer hours approved for school, work, or other programs?
Yes! We’re happy to help you get your volunteer hours approved for school, work, or any other programs that require verification. If you need documentation, just let me know what you need, and I’ll provide it for you. Many volunteers also send me emails to verify their hours through their schools or programs, and that works perfectly too. Simply reach out to me with the details, and I’ll ensure you get the appropriate verification to meet your needs! If you have more questions, feel free to reach out to us anytime. We’re excited to have you join us in making San Antonio’s River Walk events unforgettable!
